A former ninja from the Leaf Village, Orochimaru left the village and form his own village called the Hidden Sound Village in the Rice Country. He is listed as a Missing Ninja from the Leaf Village. One of the 3 Legendary Sannin. While in Konoha he was began an experiment by stealing the First Hokage's DNA and implanting them into six children. He wanted to see if they would inherit the power of the First Hokage, the power to control the bijuu (tail demons). The experiment killed five child except one, Yamato (codename). He had another experiemtn where it see immortality and forever youth. His Fushi Tensei (Living Corpse Reincarnation) allow him to inherit a host and be young. The first transfer body transfer is unknown, the second was a girl during the invasion of Konoha, and the third host is Gennyuumaru. Orochimaru later returned to the Leaf during the Chunin exam, seeking to destroy the Leaf Village. But he was rather after the powers of the Uchiha Clan, their bloodline limit of the Sharingan. On the attack of the Leaf, Orochimaru fought his once sensei, the Third Hokage. During the battle, Orochimaru summoned the former Hokages of the Leaf, the first and second, but Sarutobi managed to stop the Fourth's body from being summoned. Sarutobi used Hokage Fourth's sealing technique, mustering only enough powers to seal away Orochimaru's arms. Orochimaru asked Tsunade for her help to restore his arms, but Tsunade refused. He is currently training Sasuke in his hideout and said that Sasuke is more powerful then Naruto (3rd tail Kyuubi).
