Kakashi Gaiden denote the time caped between season 1 and season 2, roughly 2 and 1/2 years. Kakashi Gaiden is brief story of how Kakashi Hatake received his Sharingan and the turning point of his life. The event took place 10 years before the start of the Naruto series when the 5 Great Shinobi Countries were in turmoil.

Gaiden 1: Mission Start

Around 10 years ago (from start of Naruto series), the 5 Great Shinobi Countries were in turmoil as each countries tried to protect their border. And war had begun. After the war, the Fire Country were in desperate of military refinance as they were rapidly loosing military forces. Many of the wounded were transported and many fled back to the Leaf Village. This prolong battle became known as "The Third Secret World War". A troubling ninja name Obito Uchiha, of the Uchiha Clan was in a hurry to get to the meeting place.  When he arrived, everyone was already there; Kakashi Hatake, their senseri soon to be Fourth Hokage (name not given) and Rin. While Obito pour eye medicine into his eyes, Kakashi said to him that, Ninja are called trash if they don't follow rules and regulations. Rin tried to broke up the debate and tried to focus on the fact that this was Kakashi's big day. Today he will officially become a Jonin. But Obito had forgotten all about the special day. How Kakashi became a Jonin is a surprise to Obito and also a mystery. But because of the shortage in military force, the Leaf Village needed more elites to lead missions. Rin gave Kakashi a medical kit, sensei gave him a special kunai with an inscription on it but Obito gave nothing. Their mission was to invade the Grass Village by going through the Earth Country, which means they have to fight Ninja from the Rock Village. Team Kakashi, consist of Kakshi, Rin and Obito will sneak behind the enemy's front line, destroyed the Kanabi Bridge and then retrieve quickly to cut of their supplies route while their sensei face them head on. While walking through the country side, they were spotted by Rock Village ninja. Kakashi wants to invade them directlya and prepare his jutsu. It the Chidori (Lighting Blade).

Gaiden 2: Teamwork

Before Kakashi could attack, his sensei stopped him and insist that his jutsu could not destroy all the enemies in site. But now that he is the commander of the mission, he wasn't going to let anyone tell him what to do. Kakashi dashes at the enemies and the sensei threw some special kunai onto the ground revealing the enemies location. Kakashi went to strike his first enemy but it was a Shadow Clone. Before the enemy could strike Kakashi, the sensei used his quick attack to grab him away. The Sensei used the Body Flicker Jutsu to invade the enemy in a flash. As stated from the enemy from the Rock Village; if they encounter a yellow hair ninja, they were to escape. (Yondaime is also known as "Leaf Village Yellow Flash"). Kakashi refused to return back to the campsite to treat his wound. Kakashi gave Obito a lecture about Shinobi rule #25 that a ninja should never show his tears. The sensei broke their battle and told Kakashi that theres more to it then just rules and regulations and that Obito should watch his mouth or his mind will become weak. And a side note to Kakashi not to use his Jutsu again because of the speed and power, he is unable to see and counter his opponent. Before they head on with their mission, their sensei has one things to say and that is "teamwork". Obito and sensei are having a conversion and Obito learn that Kakashi was the son of a genius name Sakumo Hatake, also known as "Leaf Village White Fang". His father was respect on the same level as the 3 Legendary Ninja. After an incident with his father left Kakashi changed forever. Sakumo thought he was a disgraced ninja to the village and committed suicide. 5 years ago (from Kakashi Gaiden 1), Sakumo was on a secret mission to the enemy's land and had to decide the success of the mission or the life of his comrades. To decide to save the lives of his comrades and thus the missions failed and the village faced a downfall in ninjas. He was consider a disgrace by the villagers and his even his comrades. Sakumo became depressed and committed suicide and Kakashi never spoke of that date again. And because of that incident, Kakashi weights heavily on rules and regulation as a ninja and told Obito to go easy on Kakashi.

Gaiden 3: A True Hero

Rin finished nipping Kakashi's wound and that mission resumes again. They will split into 2 teams, team Kakashi and team sensei. After a long journey, they are spotted by two Rock Village ninja. They have doubts about Kakashi's team defeating Mahiru so one went to go ask them, using his Genjutsu. Before the enemy could appear, Obito used the Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu to devastate the surrounding area. The smoke had cover the area, which allowed the enemy to sneak behind Rin and capture her. Obito want to go after Rin but Kakashi won't let him and they started again. Kakashi want to go and secure the bridge before going to rescue Rin. But apparently Obito disagree. To Kakashi, accomplishing a mission means that sometimes you have to sacrifice your comrades because that's the "law". If the mission failed, more life will have to be lost. Obito don't want to leave Rin because she had always been there to save them. Rin gave Kakashi a medical kit with a special charm inside and the medicial kit was to increase the success of the mission. But Kakashi return by saying that unnecessary things will come to waste and be a distraction that goes to wast. Before Kakashi could remind Obito about ninja not obeying the rules are called trash, Obito shout out that the "White Fang" is a true hero. And Obito gave Kakashi a lecture of his own. "In the Ninja World, those that don't follow the rules and regulation are called trash. But those who abandon their comrades and friends are worst then trash." If rescuing Rin is breaking the rules, then let him be called trash.

Gaiden 4: CryBaby Ninja

Sensei arrived the battle front to find more than 50 enemies compared to only 4 Leaf Village Ninja. He want the four to launch special kunai at the enemies side together and he will handle the rest. This is the first time they will get to Leaf Village Yellow Flash in action. After going their separate ways, Obito spotted their hideout. One Rock Village ninja is usually his Genjutsu retrieve information from Rin. Before Obito could make a move, the enemy approach from behind. But Kakashi was able to arrived in time and save Obito using his White Chakra Blade to slice the enemy. It was a present from his father before he died. The enemy used his Camouflage Concealment Jutsu to hide from them. The enemy's scent had done faint and they can only depend on the air current and sound to track his position. While trying to protect Obito, Kakashi was slash in his left eye. Obito starts to have tears in his eyes but Kakashi told him to not let his guard down. In believing that the White Fang was a true hero and that he save his comrades even if it meant disobey the rules, he gathered himself together and didn't want the words he said to go to waste. Obito turned around the stabbed the enemy with his kunai. It was then that he was able to unleash his special ability, the Sharingan.

Gaiden 5: Present

With his nearly profound ability, he is able to see movement more clearly and Chakra flows but Kakashi's left eye is gone. With a special medical kit, they will enter the cave and rescue Rin. Activating the Sharinga, Obito is able to see Rin's Chakra flow and that is was irregular. The enemy attack Obito while Kakashi dodges to one side. Obito was able to dodge backward to avoid the attack and Kakashi went at the enemy with his White Chakra Blade, slicing the enemy in the shoulder blade. Kakashi used the Release Jutsu to dispel the Genjutsu. The enemy got up and use his own attack, Earth Style: Rock Destruction Jutsu, to make rock fall from the ceiling down as the team runs trying to avoid it. Kakashi tripped and fell so Obito rushed back, dive in the boulder's way and pushed Kakashi out of the ways. The boulder had crushed Obitos right side of this body and his right eye. Kakashi is angry that he could not save his comrades even thought he was a Jonin. But before Obito go, he wanted to give Kakashi a present as a going away present. Kakashi is a great Jonin and Obito will give him his Sharingan. With Rin's medical Jutsu, she is able to successfully transplant Obito's right Sharingan eye to Kakashi's left eye. Obito will become Kakashi's left eye and see the future for him. Kakashi of the Sharingan is born.

Gaiden 6: Heroes of the Sharingan

Kakashi leave it to Rin to watch over Obito while he deal with the enemy. They went head to head. Kakashi missess the first attack. The enemy draw out 2 hidden blade from his sleeves while Kakashi prepare his Chidori (Lightning Blade). The two had to leave before reinforcement arrive. But is seems that reinforcement had arrived early. Around 6 Rock Village ninjas appeared and perform Earth Style: Earth Split Jutsu to trap the two. Even though they became friends, Obito could not admit to Rin that he ... (like her). The enemy caught up to them and still Kakashi is willing to fight. Because Obito liked Rin and now that he died, Kakashi will protect her with his life. Kakashi threw the special kunai that his sensei gave him and attack with the Chidori (Lightning Blade). Before anything happend, he went blank. When he finally awaken, Rin and his sensei was there. The sensei had defeated all the enemies and rescue him and Rin and heard about the death of Obito from her.

"The Third Great Ninja War .... The long period of fighting ended due to the sacrifices of many nameless Shinbobis. And at the same time, there were famous heroes .... And the legends were left to be passed down from generation to generation."
